CPR and First Aid Pediatric Class Course Modules

CPR Center of Houston offers an excellent blend of class course modules that will cover just about anything to help preschool & elementary teachers as well as first-time & adoptive parents. These modules are geared towards everything involving quick childcare medical response until medical professionals arrive to take over.

Here is the list of CPR and First Aid Pediatric Modules:

1. Introduction to CPR and First Aid Pediatric Class

First, we properly introduce students to the definition, importance, and purpose of CPR and First Aid Pediatric Class. During this discussion, we open the class to the fragility of an infant and children’s anatomy and life. As a result, we emphasize the importance of your role and responsibility as the first responder during an emergency.

2. CPR Techniques for Infants and Children

There is a distinctive difference between CPR techniques appropriate for infants, children, and adults. As a result, we provide an extensive lesson and hands-on practical training that goes through the different CPR techniques suitable for the victim’s age and situation. These CPR techniques can range from finger-only, hands-only, and use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Additionally, we train with a practical approach using real-life scenarios to fully equip you to face real situations after graduation.

3. Safe Airway Management and Breathing Emergencies for Infants & Children

Babies and children are curious by nature and will just about put anything in their mouths, which can lead to severe problems. It is important that you assess the situation properly and act accordingly with intense calmness, which will, in turn, calm your baby or child for a smooth process. We teach our students the different techniques for safely opening your infant or child’s air paths and practicing rescue breathing.

Moreover, we also train you to recognize and act upon Asthma or Allergy Attacks. These types of airway emergencies are crucial, and immediate action is needed to prevent the chances of leading to more severe conditions.

4. Choking Relief for Infants and Children

It’s always important to keep an eye on infants and children because of medical emergencies such as choking, where they can’t cry for help. This module goes through the signs you must watch out for and the different maneuvers you must perform. We also teach different relief techniques, such as back blows and chest thrusts for infants and abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) for children.

5. Treating Common Pediatric Injuries and Illnesses

Handling medical situations for babies and kids is pressure-filled, regardless of the degree. So, we provide our students with several real-life scenarios during hands-on training to give them a feel of what they may face. Some of these minor injuries may include treating cuts, scrapes, or wounds. However, there are also more serious situations that need more care and attention, such as:

  • Nosebleeds
  • Fever
  • Burns or Scalds
  • Sprains, Strains or Fractures
  • Seizures
  • Vomiting
  • Food Poisoning
